A Memorable Visit to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO)

On 3 June 2026, the Friends of ERA Luxembourg Chapter had the pleasure of visiting the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).

The event drew strong interest from members and guests alike, reaffirming the value of these gatherings as a platform for exchange and learning.

Our group was warmly welcomed by the EPPO team, and participants were given a rare opportunity to gain behind‑the‑scenes insights into the work of this important European institution. A particular highlight of the visit was the presence of Laura Kövesi, European Chief Prosecutor and Head of the EPPO. Her openness and willingness to engage in dialogue were greatly appreciated, as she took the time to answer numerous questions and share her perspective on the EPPO’s mission in Europe and the challenges ahead.

The programme continued with presentations delivered by Johannes Hintzen, Alin Poterasu, Joseph Maguire, and Till Gut. Their contributions provided high‑level expertise and sparked lively and engaging discussions among participants. The event showcased not only the complexity of the EPPO’s work but also the dedication of its team.

The evening concluded with dinner at El Barrio, as usual marked by lively conversations and a pleasant atmosphere.

The event also offered an excellent opportunity to welcome new participants within the network of the Friends of ERA. Such occasions highlight the Association’s work also to fostering informal exchanges, professional connections, and continued dialogue among its members.

Once again, the Luxembourg Chapter demonstrated the value of its activities in bringing together professionals in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The evening was widely regarded as both enjoyable and enriching, leaving participants eager for future events.

About the EPPO:
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) is an independent body of the European Union, established to investigate, prosecute, and bring to judgment crimes against the EU’s financial interests, such as fraud, corruption, and serious cross-border VAT fraud. Operational since 1 June 2021, the EPPO works in close cooperation with national authorities and operates as a single office across the 24 participating Member States. Its unique structure combines a Central office in Luxembourg with over 180 European Delegated Prosecutors across the participating Member States.

During our visit, we will learn how the EPPO functions in practice, its legal framework, and its role in strengthening the protection of the EU budget, from both a legal and an operational perspective.

We recommend, as background or first introduction, our ERA Talks interview with Laura Codruța Kövesi, the European Chief Prosecutor and Head of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).
