Human Rights after Brexit: Enforcement Challenges in Northern Ireland

Dear Friends of ERA,

The UK Chapter is pleased to invite you to its next online event on Thursday, 12 March 2026 at 6pm GMT (7pm CET), focusing on

Human Rights after Brexit:
Enforcement Challenges in Northern Ireland

with:

  • Éilis Haughey, Director of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (Human Rights after EU Withdrawal)
  • Edel Quinn, Senior Policy Research Officer for the Northern Ireland Equality Commission

The UK’s Withdrawal Agreement commitment on human rights and equality standards in Northern Ireland post-Brexit, was initially described as ‘non-controversial’ by government but is at the centre of several ongoing court cases, including one before the Supreme Court.

Our speakers are from two organisations charged under the law with oversight of this government commitment and involved in several of the cases. They will address, among other things, the origin and significance of Article 2 of the Windsor Framework and what is at stake before the courts, including questions of enforcement and the range of EU law that remains relevant in Northern Ireland.

Join us by signing up via this registration link.

The event is open to all members of the Friends of ERA Association as well as the Young Friends of ERA network.
If you are interested in attending and are not yet a member of the Friends of ERA, you can join here.

We look forward to welcoming you there.
